For my brother, Kwame...

Dreamer is a reflection on childhood, possibility, and the quiet power of imagination.

At the centre of the painting is a little boy dressed in simple clothes. He represents the modest family he comes from—not wealthy, but never without what matters. His world is familiar, grounded and uncomplicated. Yet there is something within him that reaches far beyond what he can see.

He sits before the vastness of the sea, but he isn't simply looking at it. He is imagining what lies beyond it. He wonders what it would feel like to cross those waters, to discover places he has never seen, and to encounter things he has never even imagined could exist. The sea therefore becomes a symbol of possibility—the unknown world waiting beyond the boundaries of what he knows.

The orange tree represents home and the environment that shaped him. It speaks of a childhood surrounded by trees, fruit, nature and the simple abundance of the world around him. It is a core memory, a reminder of where the boy's story begins and of the familiar world he may one day leave in search of something greater.

The simplicity of the boy contrasts with the extraordinary colours surrounding him. This is intentional. The colours represent the world that exists inside him. Outwardly, he is just an ordinary boy in ordinary clothes. Inwardly, however, his mind is vibrant and limitless. He imagines, creates, experiments and finds ways to solve problems.

He can turn the ordinary into something extraordinary simply by seeing it differently.
Perhaps that is what it means to be a dreamer: to stand within the limits of your present circumstances while being able to imagine a life beyond them.

I created Dreamer for you as a reminder that where you come from does not have to determine how far your imagination can take you.

You can be surrounded by what is familiar and still dream of what is beyond the sea.

And sometimes, before we ever reach those distant places, we have to first be able to imagine that they exist.
